Pittsburgh Speedskating Club made sure everyone knew that they were in Wausau, WI for the US Speedskating Age Group Nationals and Am Cup Finals March 5 -7, 2010. We may be a small club, but we are MIGHTY! Congratulations must first go out to Coach K for a very successful year - Thank you! Competing in the Men's Am Cup Final was Cole and John Henry. Both showed their spirit (and their nice blue Junior World team member suits!) in the three days of racing by finishing in the Top 10. Cole had an overall season finish of 8th Place, and John Henry finished his season in 9th Place. Good Job guys! Competing in the Age Group Nationals, Pittsburgh brought home two Age Group National Champions! Julian had a perfect weekend, winning all four of his distances to become the 2010 Men's Intermediate Champion. Lexi fell in her first final and ended up in fourth in the 1000m. She overcame that disappointment, and completed her weekend with wins and National Records in the 500m, 777m, and 1500m to become the 2010 Women's Juvenile Champion. Also making our team proud, Ross finished 2nd in the Men's Pony Division (with a Gold in the 777m Super Final), Gary finished 3rd in the Men's Intermediate Division, John came in 4th in the Masters 50 - 59 Division, and Margo had three Personal Bests as a first year Women's Midget. Congratulations to all as we all look forward to the 2010 - 11 season!! We're looking forward to it!!

January 30th members of the team headed north to Midland, MI to compete in their Winter Blast. As usual, Midland was a great host, had great ice, and surprising non-snowy weather! 1st place finishers included Lexi (Open A Women), Ross (Midget Men), and Joseph (Tiny Tot Men). 2nd place finishes went to Evan (Open A Men) and Margo (Midget Women). 3rd place was awarded to Gary (Open A Men), Ellen (Tiny Tot Women), and John (Master Men). Andrew finished in 6th place (Tiny Tot Men) after a rough start when he chose to skate to the boards instead of jumping into the racing chaos. Thanks to the referee who guided him to a finish!

Congratulations to our own Pittsburgh skaters, Cole, John Henry, and Julian!
All three of them spent a week in Taipei, Taiwan representing the USA at the
Junior World Speedskating Championships. Besides the great experience for
all of them, they actually managed to get some skating in! Cole finished as
the highest ranking team member, coming in 10th in the WORLD. All three
boys skated in the relay (along with Robert Lawrence from the Utah club
team), and the US finished that in 6th place.

Congratulations Team Pittsburgh! We're all proud of each of you!

Congratulations to Pittsburgh skaters Cole and John-Henry Krueger for finishing 3rd and 4th at the U.S. Junior championships and also to Julian Wood who trains with them in Pittsburgh and finished 2nd overall. All three will represent the U.S. at Junior Worlds in Taiwan this January.

	Our skaters brought home a lot of hardware! First place finishers were Lexi, John and Joseph. Second place finishers included, Margo, Alex, Ross, and Ellen. Finishing with a Fourth place trophy was Maddie. A special shout out to Andrew for taking the ice at his first meet and being brave enough to hear the starter pistol fire up close! John Henry and Cole competed in the very competitive Am Cup A Mens division and had strong finishes with 13th and 11th place finishes respectively! Pittsburgh Speedskating Club would like to thank the Ohio Speedskating Association for putting on such a well run and FUN event!

PSC skaters showed up in force for the Cleveland Am Cup II and Ohio Invitational meet held November 7th and 8th. Oct 17/18-2009

Team members Ross, Joseph, Ellen, Maddie, Alex, Lexi and Margo competed at the Rochester, NY meet. With skaters fighting off cold and flu symptoms , Team Pittsburgh still had a very respectable showing! In the Tiny Tot division, Ellen and Alex both earned 1st place finishes. Joseph was asked to skate up into the Peewee division because of his great seed times and was able to set some new PB's (not bad for a 5 year old - good job skating with the "big guys"!). Maddie came in 4th in the Peewee Girls division. Margo placed 9th out of 16 in her first year of Midget competition. Ross finished up with a 2nd place finish in the strong Pony Men's Division. Lexi secured 2nd place in the Open A Women's Division by winning the 1500 Super Final. Good job skaters with your new PB's. Thank you Rochester for a great meet!

Sept 3/4-2009

John Henry, Cole, Lexi and Margo went to Saratoga to compete at AmCup 1 and the Saratoga Cup races. In the AmCup B division, Lexi swept the races with wins in every distance, and set a new PB in her 500m race. John Henry finished 10th overall, and Cole finished 12th in a tough men's AmCup A division. Margo finished in 10th place in her Saratoga Cup races. Highlights for Cole and JH were Cole getting the fastest 1000m time of all the men at this meet, and both got to skate the 1500m Super Final. Thank you Saratoga for a such a well run meet!

Long time Pittsburgh Speedskating Club member Maddie Watton will be competing at the U.S. Olympic Trials in Marquette, MI starting on September 8th. We all wish her the best of luck! One can follow the results on www.goldrushskate.com. The Watton family extends its heartfelt thanks for all the support over the years from the coaches, local rinks & their staff, and especially our fellow speedskating families. Mar-18-2009 Lexi wins National Midget Title

Lexi set 3 national records on her way to becoming the overall national champion midget lady. She won the 333 in a record 33.762, the 777 in a record 1:18.403, and the 1000 in a record 1:43.004. Congratulations Lexi! Read the article about Lexi in the Observer Reporter here.

Congratulations to the three Pittsburgh skaters that have been designated jr. category 1 by U.S. Speedskating for the 2008-2009 season: John-Henry, Maddie, and Cole. This status is an honor and acknowledgment of talent, hard work, performance and of future expectations. PSSC members may join US Speedskating online here which is required of all on-ice participants (except learn-to-speedskate only). Several options are available. New members who wish to compete may register as first year competing athletes at $30. If you are only interested in practicing or volunteering then consider a fan membership at $15 per year. There is also a two month introductory membership with all privilages for only $10.

John Henry, Maddie, and Cole have returned from an exciting US Junior Championships. Results: race results points time classification. Highlights include Maddie qualifying for top 16 (group 1), finishing 13th overall, and setting PB's in the 500, 1000, and 1500 meter events, including a 1000 meter time to qualify for future American Cup Meets (A division). John Henry placed 4th in the group 2 men and set PB's in the 1000 and 1500 meters and Cole placed first overall in the group 2 men.

Club skaters Maddie, Alex M.,Evan, Lexi, Kailey, Margo, Ross, and Binny had great fun at the Rochester International Meet this weekend. Among the many personal bests Alex M. and Evan skated 1000 m times that qualify them for American Cup Meets. Check here for results. Skaters, Kailey, Margo, Lexi, Alex M., Cole, JH, EJ, and Alex W., have already competed this season. Check the meets link for results. Highlights include Lexi qualifying for American Cup Meets based on 1000 m time at the Midwest Mini Cup and Cole qualifying for American Cup Meets (A division) at our own RMU Island Sports Fall Open. Fall ice schedule: Mondays at Warrendale (icetime 5-6:20 pm), Tuesdays at RMU (icetime 6-8 am), Thursdays at Divito Park (icetime 7:40-9:00 pm), Fridays at Mt. Lebanon (icetime 3:10-4:30 pm), Saturdays at Harmarville (icetime in the morning - check the calendar because it can move around or be pre-empted), and new this season the Mt. Lebanon Learn-to-Speedskate has moved to Saturday afternoons starting at 1 pm.

There are additional dryland only sessions at Mt. Lebanon on Tuesday and Sunday from 4-5 pm.

Its official! A new weekly session starts on Thursday evenings at Divito Park, an Olympic size ice arena, near Connellsville, PA. The address is 101 Frankie Lane, Leisenring, PA 15455. For directions see here. Pricing is a flat walk-on rate of $12 per person for everyone regardless of level. Coaching fee is separate as usual. The month of October is a trial period and if participation is good sessions will continue. Please do your best to support this new ice time which Jim Komarinski has arranged for the Club. Yes, we have pads!

Evan - 2nd overall in Pony Boys, John-Henry - 2nd overall in Midget Men, Landon - 3rd overall in Junior Men, Maddie - 4th overall in Juvenile Ladies, and Cole - 6th overall in Juvenile Men. Cole wins North Americans (photo from 2006 Nationals)

Cole Krueger wins 2006 North American Championships in Kamloops, BC, Canada! His first place overall in Juvenile boys, in a strong field of 24, was secured with victories in the 777 and 1000 meter events. Cole also placed fifth in the 500 meter race with a new personal best time of 46.73 seconds. For complete results go here.

Pittsburgh skaters shine at nationals. Ross, Evan, John-Henry, Maddie, and Cole have returned from a fun and successful 2006 Short Track Nationals in Madison, Wisconsin. Between them they advanced to 14 finals and placed in the top four (medal positions) in 12 of them. Overall Cole finished 3rd in Juvenile Boys, John-Henry finished 3rd in Midget Boys, Evan finished 4th in Pony Boys, and Maddie finished 7th in Juvenile Girls. For complete results go here.
